The one-man band, Owl City, finally releases its second full-length major-label studio album, entitled All Things Bright and Beautiful. The title refers to an Anglican hymn with the same name. In his sophomore efforts, Adam Young - the main and only official personnel of the band - tried not to be far away from his synthpop sounds. However, don't think that he will go in circles. There are so many colors in this album, including hip hop ("Alligator Sky", which is a duet with rapper Shawn Chrystopher), folk music ("Angels"), and rock ("Kamikaze"). The duets - "Alligator Sky" and "Honey and the Bee", which is a duet with Lights - can be considered as highlights, even beating the impressions made by "Tidal Wave" (featuring Matthew Thiessen) or "The Saltwater Room" (featuring Breanne Duren) from Ocean Eyes. The music may be boring in two or three parts, but it doesn't affect the impression of the entire album. Young's exploration also involves guitar, which can be heard in tracks such as "Honey and the Bee" and "Deer in the Headlights".

The lyrics portray a more mature personality from Young. In his previous efforts, we can hear that Ocean Eyes contains dreamy, childish, and ethereal lyrics; however, in this effort, Young explores more stuff and emotions from his deepest feelings, even he enters the slightly darker zone of his dreamy lyrics. The word play seems so strange in some parts, but it shows Young's consistency. As we've known all the time, Young is the right man to put us into a nice dream, with good performance of singing lullabies, making every night we hear the album feels so memorable.
